Wax Botanical is a bit of a savant – as well as being a musician making and releasing music independently under that name since 2003 it’s also the name under which he works as a designer, illustrator and I.T. whizz. But whilst music is his main passion, Tim Harper also has a keen eye as a visual artist as you can see from the video for Fat Controller.

Harper says of his method of working: ‘Often an illustration or story concept will dictate the creation of a song and vice versa. Most of my music tends to follow the blues music mantra of ‘happy (or funny) songs about very sad things’.’ Speaking of Fat Controller, Harper adds; ‘It’s a dark minimal electro track. The music video is based on the odd story of a modern day ‘Brony’ or horse/unicorn worshipper – built around themes of social anxiety, depression and solitude as-well as more positive vibes such as dressing how you like and dancing how you want to dance’. You can check out more music by Wax Botanical on Bandcamp and YouTube – and his design stuff is kinda cool too!
