SAKIMA is a left field, electronic R&B pop singer-producer based in the UK. Out and proud, his previous release Daddy (you can check out the sensual but decidedly NSFW video for the track here) made quite the splash and had Billboard and Atwood predict big things for him in 2018. New single Death Is In The Air repays that confidence in him and sees SAKIMA coming up trumps with a personal truimph and an alt.queer anthem in the making.
There’s a stark simplicity to the arrangement and an overall aesthetic that fans of Mr. Kitty and Drab Majesty will love. Dark, personal and on occasions bleakly euphoric in its personal revelations, Death Is In The Air captures thoughts and emotions that’ll be familiar to many that have been forced to be outsiders and suffered for it. It’s pertinent, it’s personal and it’s political – but primarily it’s a great pop song and that is its greatest achievement.
