Montreal’s Overwhelm brings a fresh perspective to the downtempo sound with White Forest. It has a minimal yet somehow rich, lush sound right from its opening, which is reminiscent of church music, as an organ swells majestically before giving away to the most chilled of beats.

There’s a spiritual feel to the track, its Eastern-influenced sound making the listener feel like a part of the track and a part of nature. In terms of tone and mood, White Forest feels like a cultural and mystical travelogue, as the intertwining rhythms and traditional music motifs fuse and build to engender a sense of calm and warmth in the listener.

It’s something that Donevan Adams (aka Overwhelm) reflects on. Adams works full-time in sound and audio engineering for media, and says he has been ‘taking from visual storytelling to provide inspiration for the composition process’.

White Forest is out now and will be followed by another track – Ebb & Flow – on 15th December and will feature on his upcoming EP release which is scheduled for the 1st January 2018.
