Whilst some of us are still in denial about the lack of a new Ladytron album since 2011 (though they did say last July that something was stirring) it’s fair to say that the band members have continued to produce great music in various incarnations.  I’ve always had a soft spot for the voice of Helen Marnie and was a happy bunny when I heard Lost Maps. It feels like it has been a long time since Crystal Worlds was released but Lost Maps makes up for the wait.

It’s the debut single from her upcoming album Strange Words and Weird Wars, due out later this year. Listening to Lost Maps brings home how influential Marnie and her fellow band members were. You can reference acts like Ladyhawke, La Roux and a whole host of other electro-infused acts when listening to the song, but Marnie and her cohorts were there first and she builds on that legacy with Lost Maps.

From the synthwave style opening to the hook laden chorus Marnie take her own history, incorporates influences from those inspired by her music and creates a beautiful uptempo electro ballad for the world weary and world wary.

Lost Maps is currently available to stream via Soundcloud and Spotify and the album Strange Words and Weird Wars will be released via Disco Pinata records on June 2nd 2017. The album can be pre-order via Apple Music which gets you three tracks instantly.
