There must be something in the water in Los Angeles that results in so many good bands originating from around there, and you can certainly add EXES to that list. EXES – Venice Beach based Allie McDonald and Mike Derenzo have just released a new song, Dear, Home and you really should listen to it.

Vocalist Allie says on this particular song:

“‘Dear, Home’ is a song for the homesick. It’s a song dedicated to the pieces of my heart I left back East. The parts of me still beating in that small town where I grew up.  As nostalgic-romantics, it is one of the most personal songs we’ve written.”

It’s a taster for their upcoming EP,   The Art of Saying Goodbye which is described as an emotive six track collection packed with hypnotic beats, airy vocals, and wistful lyrics and is officially released on the 7th of October.

Their previous singles,  twentythousand and 18 were streamed over a million times upon their release earlier this year, and a listen to the tracks will easily explain why. EXES fuse intimacy and intricacy to create a detail-oriented sort of pop and there’s a slick and tricky playfulness to the music which is a counterpoint to the often bittersweet lyrics.

If you are a fan of impeccable, female fronted, moody, electronic, alt.pop in any format then EXES are a band to watch and listen to. If they continue to produce such well crafted, glossy and evocative sounds then we predict great things for them.
