Bostonians DAVVN have – in a short number of releases – shown themselves to be fine purveyors of quality downtempo-inspired electronica, and have followed up Hold This Love – which we recently featured – with another winner in the form of Wildfires.
McCall Bliss’ vocals are once again like honey, sweet and imbued with the spirit of summer, whilst the tempo and arrangement create a sense of warmth and optimism in the face of change we cannot control. There’s a slightly retro feel to the track, but that’s more to do with the way the track harks back to classic soft rock acts in tone and structure, avoiding clichés as it slowly unfolds. The release of the track coincides with the recent tragic events in California which has prompted the band to pass on their proceeds from Wildfires.
Speaking about the inspiration for the track and the decision to give up and in fact double their earnings from Wildfires and give them to charity, the band says: “A couple of months ago we started writing a song about the uncontrollable nature of change. We called it Wildfires. Little did we know, wildfires would go on to change the lives of so many in California. We plan on donating (and matching) all the proceeds of our track to wildfire relief, the victims, and the volunteers”.
Wildfires is out now, and can be streamed and downloaded on all major digital services – you can find out more here.
