East Anglian duo Amethysts have crafted a great and individual sound for themselves over the last few years. Their at times ambient and but always heartfelt take on synthpop has seen them serve up one delicious slice of sophisticated electro goodness after another. The latest gem from the band is new track Be There – give it a listen below.
It’s no surprise their sound has garnered them BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music airplay, along with sessions with BBC Introducing. Clarice’s vocals just carry you along as if on the crest of a wave, washing gently over Simon’s harmonies and a delightfully chilled arrangement. Synths gently roll along as an achingly emotive 70’s style helps the duo to fashion a track laden with pathos and understated longing.
Discussing the single, the duo stated: “Be There explores and conveys the passion and ambition in us both, lyrically and musically. After an evening of jamming, its 6/8 time signature and catchy vocal line just fell into place within a few hours. It’s the first song we’ve written in 6/8. Clarice took to writing the lyrics from an optimistic yet emotional place hoping it would help to self-heal during a personal family affair”.
Be There will be released on 9th February and will be available on all digital platforms including Spotify. For more information on the band, be sure to visit their website linked above, or check them out at the upcoming London gig for Sofar Sounds.
